The Pike’s Peak Atlas is printed on a durable, water resistant, material that holds up well to being hauled around, shoved in backpacks, and crammed in glove boxes. The Pikes Peak Atlas is an outdoors enthusiast’s map, thus it is made to go outside and get a little wet and dirty.
The Pike’s Peak Atlas map is printed in a very large 1:36000 scale with 100 feet contour intervals. Again, this is a map that is meant to be used outdoors. You shouldn’t need to take out a magnifying glass to read your map. The cartographer’s use of color on the Pikes Peak Atlas map is very handy. The green areas of the map are part of the USDA Pike National Forest managed by the Us Forest Service. The yellow areas represent Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands. The white areas represent privately owned property. Another one of the upgrades to these more current Pike’s Peak Atlas maps is that are now folded with an “accordion fold”. This is much easier for most people to refold correctly.
The Pikes Peak Atlas map is trusted and recommended by El Paso County Search and Rescue, and well as many of most experienced backcountry explorers of the Pikes Peak region.
